One of the advantages of multiple-input multipleoutput (MIMO) systems is the multiplexing gain over single-input single-output (SISO) systems. We consider adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) as a practical technique in achieving the full multiplexing gain of MIMO systems. The multiplexing gain of AMC MIMO systems is analyzed quantitatively, and a practical way of predicting the multiplexing gain of a generic AMC MIMO system is presented.
