Abstract

Social computing is a new research field with a long history. Its origins trace to back to the beginning of modern computing and landmark work, but the Internet and political events have motivated a new research direction that integrates cyber and physical worlds. An adaptation of the three-stage modeling, analysis, and control approach to solving natural and engineering science problems is proposed. The ACP approach combines artificial societies for modeling, computational experiments for analysis, and parallel execution for control. This article is part of a special issue on social computing.
