Abstract

Contiguous element region selection is a fundamental step in many image analysis applications. This application is often run on computers with virtual memory systems. The page fault behavior of the contiguous element selection algorithm is greatly influenced by the ordering of the nearest neighbor search pattern. The execution time of the algorithm can be cut in half for important instances of real world data.
