Where Wizards Stay up Late: The Origins of the Internet

The Global Mobile Information Systems (GloMo) is a a multi-organization program funded by the U.S Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The most recent GloMo Principal Investigators (PI) meeting was held in Washington D.C between July 28--30, 1998. As part of this meeting, a number of technologies developed within this program were demonstrated to a wide variety of audiences. In this article, we present a brief overview of the GloMo program and report on the July PI meeting, focusing on the demonstrations, and the technologies they represent.
