Product manufactures for goods such as automobiles, computers, and consumer electronics spend a huge amount of money towards warranty costs. Large and mid-size product manufacturers are looking for Information Technology based solutions to reduce the overall cost towards warranty and enable compliance to government regulations. In this paper, we present an application of text analytics applied on textual data recorded in warranty claim forms for the purpose of efficient defect discovery. We propose a generic architecture of a text analytics based system for gaining intelligence from the textual data stored in warranty claim forms. We present a concrete example in automotive sector.
