In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), key management is one of the crucial parts for security. Though most of the existing key management schemes are not viable solutions which are attributed to their inefficient key sharing mechanism, recently, random key pre-distribution scheme has evolved as an efficient solution for sharing keys between sensor nodes due to its many advantages such as robustness and independent on a base station. Focus on studying the signal range of sensor node might significantly improve the performance of key sharing mechanism, but remain unexploited and hence needs further attention. Hence in this study, we propose a new approach for probabilistic key predistribution scheme that guarantees higher probability of sharing keys between nodes in the signal range compared to other schemes. As a result, the new approach is expected to minimize the key ring as well as providing with high connectivity (0.995). We also compared our present scheme with the existing algorithms and observed that our scheme achieved a superior performance even with different deployment errors.
