In this paper we propose a Spatial Reuse MAC (SRM) protocol based on the IEEE 802.11 which employs a combination of power control and a fully distributed scheme of transmission sneaking to achieve energy efficiency and spatial re-use in wireless ad hoc networks without using a separate control channel. Through extensive performance evaluation, we show that SRM considerably improves the total amount of bytes delivered per unit of energy as compared to existing solutions.
