Abstract

Two novel 5-DOF parallel machine tools are proposed for a 3Dfree-form surface normal machining by a CAD variation geometryapproach. First, the simulation mechanisms of a 4SPS + RPS parallelmanipulator and a 5SPS/UPU parallel manipulator are created.Second, a 3D free-form surface and a guiding plane with tool pathare constituted and two simulation parallel machine tools arecreated. Third, the tool axis of the simulation parallel machinetool is retained perpendicular to the 3D free-form surface and theextensions of the driving limbs and the pose of the platform ofparallel machine tools are solved automatically and visualiseddynamically.
