Ad hoc wireless networks are a special type of wireless network in which a collection of mobile hosts (nodes) with wireless network interfaces may form a temporary network without base-stations. How to design an energy efficient broadcast algorithm is very important. In this paper, we propose scalable broadcast algorithms based on reducing the number of forwarding nodes and the transmission range. Simulations show that our schemes use the least energy so far. Furthermore, the two aspects can be combined for less energy consumption and by considering the residue energy in each host, the lifetime of the network can be prolonged.
