Abstract

Since 1996, the focus of research in the area of modeling and simulation has been centered on High Level Architecture, the U.S. Department of Defense's official technical framework. This paper presents an alternative Service-Oriented Simulation Architecture (SOSA) designed to build a complex M&S system with a set of related industry standards from the field of information technology. SOSA explores applying Service-Oriented Architecture concepts and evolutionary commercial-off-the-shelf products to improve the interoperability, extensibility, composability and scalability of distributed simulations. This is a very timely and much needed contribution to a rapidly emerging field.
