Abstract

In this paper, a novel hierachical fingerprint matching method is proposed through using the minutiae and ridge image. The ridge-based matching is complementary to the minutiae-based matching for the purpose to reduce the false matching. The ridge matching is only accomplished in the area of the convex hull constructed by those matched minutiae in the phase of minutiae-based matching. Experimental results demonstrate this proposed method to be not only improved the matching performance, but also more time saving than the ridge-based schemes.
