Abstract

This paper describes a method to locate and recognize container code characters. This method is aimed to make more fault-tolerant a system based on tophat transformation, segmentation algorithms, filters and classifiers. Our aim is to be able to find characters which could be shadowed or missclassified. The system has to deal with outdoor images. Our aim is to obtain a list of characters which contains all, or as much as possible, characters of the container's registration number in order to recognize them. This work is part of a higher order project whose aim is the automation of the entrance gate of a port.
