Abstract

MIMO wireless systems are studied in this paper with particular emphasis on the achieved performance in terms of achieved capacity, in different operational environments. First, the definition of a MIMO system is presented along with the performance advantages. Then, Shannon's extended capacity formula is discussed and a simplified expression is derived by applying linear transformations. The paper concentrates on the capacity of Rayleigh channels and then studies the case where the signals are submitted to fading correlation, furthermore a study on the effects of calibration errors regarding capacity is presented.
