Abstract

Hippocampus is a relatively independent part of brain of living organisms responsible for spatial orientation and navigation. Principle of work of the hippocampus gives inspiration for algorithms that can be used in nonbiological applications. This paper discusses precisely function of individual parts of the hippocampus of rodents, suggests mathematical models of the individual parts and combines them into one single sophisticated model. The aim is to provide a model that utilizes features of the hippocampus and models its overall behavior but does not model exactly the real hippocampus. The actual model incorporates methods of adaptive learning as artificial neural networks and reinforcement learning. To validate the function of the model a modified well-known Morris water maze task [7] is used for comparison of the model with behavior of real rodents.
