Abstract

A fuzzy approach to color quantization and its application in content-based image indexing and retrieval is presented in this paper. There are some drawbacks associated with traditional color histogram such as color quantization. The goal in this paper is to develop an effective method to overcome several limitations, which are related to traditional color histogram. In the proposed method, fuzzy logic is used to quantize color space and apply it in color histogram construction. The objective is to eliminate error quantization effect that causes poor results due to varying lighting conditions and gamma nonlinearity effect. Experimental results on a database of 1000 images are reported.
