Face detection plays an important role in various applications, such as face recognition, video surveillance, and human-computer interface. In the present paper, we propose a new face detection method using the probability maps. The basic concept of the proposed method involves the use of the property of the deviation of the position of the complex region and flat region of the face. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method is more robust with respect to variation of scale and rotation compared to conventional method.
