Abstract

Last few years have seen a tremendous growth of WiFi devices, and with the introduction of smart devices like Zune, iPhone etc., which offer a variety of WiFi-based Internet applications, this trend is only going to accelerate. However, the current throughput/delay characteristics of 802.11 systems are not sufficient to support applications like high definition video streaming, VoIP, online gaming etc. Although, 802.11 theoretically supports data rates up to 54 Mbps, its performance is well below claims.
