Abstract

This paper proposes a new approach to static time delay estimation in the presence of white Gaussian noise. The ambiguities and thresholding effects caused by noise are considered. We also consider the case where the delayed time can be a non-integer multiple of the sampling period. The proposed method is based on performing both noise variance estimation and compensation in the frequency domain. A simplified order statistic basd noise variance estimation technique is combined with a phase reconvery technique to effectively extract the source signal before time delay estimation by using bandlimited interpolation and cross-correlation. Simulation results confirm the effectivencess of the proposed method.
