General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is seen as one of the key steps to evolving today's GSM network to provide value-added packet-switched data service by sharing the air interface with traditional GSM circuit-switched voice demands. This paper analyzes a Media Access Control (MAC) protocol that supports bounded channel access delay for delay-sensitive traffic, bounded packet loss probability for loss-sensitive traffic, and dynamic adaptive resource allocation for bursty traffic. Simulation results show that this protocol is able to support guaranteed QoS (Quality of Service) for streaming, conversational, interactive and background traffic.
