Abstract

BitTorrent is the most popular peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing protocol on the Internet. This is the reason why it is responsible for taking up a large portion of Internet traffic. This paper surveys BitTorrent first and discuss a number of topics surrounding BitTorrent. The topics include how BitTorrent began, the motivation for it, why it is such an efficient file distributed system, the current uses and legal issues with it. Finally we will take a look at our next step which is simulation of BitTorrent.
