Abstract

This paper describes the introduction of business process modeling and disaster simulation to graduate students using Rockwell Arena software in the summer of 2007. Students in a Public Administration course were asked to model and simulate a local event of a bird flu virus transmissible between humans. The assignment was successful in helping students realize the role of modeling and simulation in planning. Student responses to the assignment were variable. The author reflects upon the experience and offers suggestions to others who may want to use Arena to introduce students in computer science and information systems courses to business process modeling and simulations.
