Abstract

In this paper, a general form of vector field transform for gray-scale images is proposed by an electro-static analogy. A novel compressing vector field is presented, based on which the region center points can be extracted. Then the primitive region extraction is implemented with a region shrinking process. An image segmentation method is presented by primitive region extraction and merging. The experimental results show that the compressing vector field reveals the image structure feature, and the proposed method can achieve effective image segmentation results.
