Abstract

The IMPROVE demonstrator is an integrated research prototype of a novel design environment for chemical engineering. Throughout the IMPROVE project, it has been considered essential to evaluate concepts and models by building innovative tools. Moreover, an integrated prototype was seen as a driving force to glue research activities together. Two versions of the demonstrator were implemented. The first version was demonstrated after the first phase of the project (from 1997 to 2000). The second demonstrator built upon the first one and was prepared at the end of the second phase (lasting from 2000 to 2003).This section describes the second demonstrator, which shows interdisciplinary cooperation (between chemical and plastics engineering), interorganizational cooperation (between a chemical engineering company and an extruder manufacturer), and synergistic tool integration.
