A new enhancement algorithm of dual-energy X-ray carry-on luggage images is proposed in this paper in an effort to ensure the national security at airports. First, high energy and low energy X-ray images are fused after discrete wavelet transform (DWT), and then fuzzy technique is improved to enhance the fusion images. Finally, histogram equalization (HE) is performed to extend the dynamic range of processed image gray-levels. Experimental results show that the proposed approach can improve image definition more efficiently and have better generalization compared with that of gray level grouping (GLG) and HE.
