Abstract

Recently, due to the rapid development on the mobile hardware, it is required to extend software environment to execute not only native or mobile application platforms (BREW, WIPI, etc.) based applications but also other applications that are similar with those of smartphones or PCs. However, these applications are often too heavy and complex. Thus, running these applications in mobile phone is not suitable because most of mobile handset has limited resources such as the limited CPU performance, memory and small display size. In addition, because most of mobile device has its own RTOS, reusability and migration of various applications are restricted. Therefore, in this paper, we will design a L4 micro-kernel based lightweight mobile middleware which supports the mobile application platform and Linux-like application execution environment.
