In this paper, we bring forward a new approach for SAR imaging using fractional Fourier transform (FRFT). For synthetic aperture radar (SAR), the echo from the ground can be regarded approximately as a chirp signal, and the FRFT is a powerful way to concentrate the energy of a chirp signal. A two stepSAR imaging algorithms is suggested, and experimental results show that the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method are much better than those of the Chirp Scaling algorithm (CSA). Also for the reason it take only two steps to form the image in the fractional Fourier domain, this method is much simple in implementation.
