Abstract

Rich multimedia communication in groups is the instrument ofchoice in various e-learning situations and is best achieved byvideoconferencing, supplemented by collaborative tools. In thispaper, we report on various distributed synchronous andasynchronous video-based teaching and learning scenarios usingstationary and mobile technologies over IP. They are realised by amultimedia communication system including a VideoConferencing overIP (VCoIP) software with hybrid architecture derived from aSIP-initiated P2P model. The system is based on a fast, highlyefficient H.264/AVC video codec implementation. We investigate newconcepts for nomadic IPv6 user and session mobility, focussing onreal-time group communication.
