Abstract

The Retina/Iris Multimodal Biometric (RIMB) system is adeveloping technology that aims to address security and imagingproblems inherent in current iris recognition systems. Theshortcomings of the Iris recognition system are studied. Theaddition of retinal scanning helps alleviate spoofing and imagingissues associated with occlusions of the iris. By combining bothiris and retinal cameras in one apparatus, scans can be done inparallel and data can be combined at the feature extraction level.RIMB provides for a nearly impossible to spoof system that is bestin high security situations. Hypotheses on the operation of RIMBare presented.
