Abstract

Recently, the importance of information enhancement methods indigital image processing has increased significantly. Typicalexamples are searching for similar objects/images in largedatabases and understanding the objects in images. The main pointsof these tasks are to extract the most characteristic features ofthe objects in the images and/or to separate the 'significant' and'unimportant' parts of these features. This paper describes a newedge processing method which is able to extract the 'primary', i.e.those edges which can advantageously be used in sketch based imageretrieval algorithms.
