Abstract

A distributed power and bit allocation algorithm for multiuser OFDM-based wireless systems, in which each sub-carrier can be shared by multiple users, would be useful in multi-cell as well as ad hoc systems. In this paper, we first propose a centralized greedy algorithm for a single carrier system which involves the solution of a nonlinear multidimensional knapsack problem (MDKP). Using the result from this algorithm as a guide, we then design a distributed algorithm that can rapidly yield a near-optimal solution.
