Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) has emerged as the self-organized wireless interconnection for the applications in random topology. However, achieving reliable multicast transmission in MANET is crucial due to the changeable network topology caused by the node mobility. In this paper, a novel scheme, named PBMRP (Path-based Multicast Routing Protocol for Ad-hoc Network) protocol that integrates routing layer and transport layer, is proposed to provide reliable multicast transmission by considering the maintenance effort of robust routing. The proposed scheme adopts the path information kept by each node for path restoration and can save the precious bandwidth resource when compared to traditional schemes. The simulation results show that the proposed PBMRP protocol can achieve the above objectives and is superior to that of the DSR with TCP-Reno scheme for the maintenance overhead and the path reliability.
