Abstract

If you have been looking for a book for the purpose of learning C++ that also explains the concepts behind data abstraction and object-oriented programming, then this book is for you. It is one of several new books coming out of Bell Labs concurrently with the release of version 2.0 of the C++ Translator. The authors are able to provide a unique perspective on C++. They have been involved in the development of a C++ compiler at Bell Labs for several years and have been privy to many of the design decisions made by Bjarne Stroustrup over the years. In writing this book they are able to supply the reader with their insight on the philosophy behind many of the features of the language and how to effectively utilize them.
