In this paper we present our approach to design adaptive systems. Attention is focused on the design of strategies which are considered an efficient way to implement decisions and to ensure the modularity, maintenance, reusability and evolvability of the main concepts and components of an adaptive distributed system. The paper presents three types of strategies: domain, system and connectivity. The last two types of strategies are independent of any application domain; hence, they are presented in the context of our architectural model. The domain strategies are described through a finance case study which provides support to the staff members to enhance the way they interact with the customers.
