Opportunistic networks are one of the most interesting evolutions of the mobile ad hoc networks. In opportunistic networks, mobile devices can communicate with each other even if a route connecting them does not exist all the time. These networks have recently appeared as relevant supports for ubiquitous and pervasive computing. This paper presents a proxy-based model for an enhanced provision of application services in opportunistic networks. This model makes it possible for service providers to specify what services can be delivered by proxies, and what mobile devices are expected to act as proxies. The proxy selection can be performed either in a distributed and autonomic manner or in a centralised manner. This paper also presents some results of the evaluations of this model we have performed using simulation techniques.
