Abstract

We report on our experience from design and implementation of a powerful map application for managing, querying and visualizing evolving locations of moving objects. Instead of building a specialized spatiotemporal database, we have chosen to retain geographic information in a renowned stream processing engine with native support for spatial features. Through a graphical interface, users are able to specify typical continuous queries (such as range, distance, or nearest neighbor search), and receive incremental results. Moreover, this application offers capabilities for visual display of objects' trajectories and online collection of movement statistics.
