Abstract

Other members of the panel have discussed the various services which a Community Information Utility (CIU) might provide as well as the various hardware, software, and communication facilities which it might employ. The CIU's actual configuration and mix of services will be determined by a number of inter-related factors stemming from areas such as sociology, psychology, computer science, economics, political science, communications, and electrical engineering. Nevertheless, a study of the economic considerations which underlie the CIU concept can indicate the more likely paths for development.
