Abstract

This paper introduces argument reconstruction as an important aspect of the socio-technical support for large-scale argumentation in goal oriented discourse communities. Drawing from prior research on the pragmatics of argumentation, we distinguish ordinary, normative, and design as three forms of argument reconstruction to be investigated in discourse communities. We suggest understanding how argument reconstruction is embedded in both social and technical aspects of discourse communities will improve capacity to support large-scale argumentation for discourse communities.
