Abstract

Biomembranes can withstand the external forces by changing the cell shapes. Shape changes of the biomembrane produce evolution to the organism. To introduce desired chemistries to the cell by changing its shapes, the model to describe the mechanical property of the cell is necessary to be characterized. Estimation of the cells deformation is the major part for the characterization of mechanical properties. A novel method is proposed in this paper to quantify the strain for deformed biomembranes. The method estimates the global change of the deformed biomembranes which is induced by the injection pipette. The experimental results show that the estimation of the cells deformation is reasonable and quantifiable to model the mechanical property of cells.
