With the emergence of NETCONF, it is expected that a separate effort to study NETCONF-based data modeling in the interest of next generation network management should be undertaken. In order to exactly measure the capabilities of management data modeling languages, this paper tries to improve the initial evaluation framework with a weight to each criterion. And it aims in utilizing the optimized framework to the case of NETCONF-based network management by checking the feasibility of XML Schema and YANG as a NETCONF-specific data modeling language. The result shows that, YANG may be better than XML Schema for the purpose of promoting the standardization progress of NETCONF-based network management.
