Abstract

This paper describes a multi-level procedure for design of file organizations. Necessary description of the application systems is discussed and a design procedure outlined. The main levels of the design procedure are: • normalization of messages, • synthesis of a logical model of the file organization, • making a "best possible" physical realization of the logical model using a particular DBMS. The final solution is evaluated through a performance analysis.
