Abstract

Ethernet technology offers a contemporary choice for MAN environment. Although their growing impact, the Ethernet-based MAN networks still have to solve a number of questions in order to provide resilience, QoS, service management, scalability and compatibility. Moreover, different types of transfer, in particular mission-critical applications, have to be deployed and maintained over this type of MAN networks. Both the set of protocols -- SIP, RTP/RTCP and the QoS issues, widely spread in the real-time communication process, have a significant influence over the stages of building and implementing an Ethernet-based MAN environment.
