In this paper we present how different color spaces and wavelet bases behave in lossy wavelet compression. We used three different wavelet base functions: Haar, Symlets and Biorthogonals. 11 different color spaces were tested. We chose four of the color spaces which were RGB, Ohta, L*u*v and YCbCr. All of these color spaces have different properties and the choice of the color space can alter the results. We aimed to excellent image quality. YCbCr and L*u*v color spaces produced the best results using the simplest wavelet base function Haar.
