Abstract

Pānini 'sAṣṭādhyāyī consists ofsūtras that capture fundamentals of Sanskrit language anddefine its structure in terms of phonology, morphology and syntax. The Aṣṭādhyāyī can be thoughtof as an automaton to generate words and sentences. In objectoriented programming terms, prescribing sūtras are objectshaving its transformation rule as its method. The meta rules orparibhāṣā sūtras and paribhāṣāvārtikās define the flow of the program. Duringapplication of sktras, conflicts may arise among two or morecompeting sktras. In this paper, computational structure of theAṣṭādhyāyī , sktra objectsobserving the environment, tree representation of sktras andmathematical representation of conflict resolution techniques arepresented.
