Abstract

This paper presents a system to facilitate the mobile devices to browse and retrieve video clips from a large amount of media contents. The media server in the proposed system is capable of recommending video clips to users that is adapt to their resolutions. Users are able to send feedbacks about user experiences to the server through the interactive client. Based on the user feedbacks, the media server could update the metadata for video clips such as popularity and acceptable resolution. In addition, redundant versions with lower resolution are generated for video clips by estimating their popularities, and sent to users with lower resolution directly to save the downsizing transcoding process. Experimental results demonstrate that user experiences are improved according to the increase of positive user feedbacks and the decrease of average transcoding delay.
