Abstract

This paper deals with feedback transmission in IPTV (Internet Protocol Television). It describes all important units, methods and processes used in IPTV technology. First, it describes IPTV in general and focuses on the specific terms of use. The first section also contains basic information about classical TV transmission, discusses differences of IPTV technology and shows the advantages and disadvantages of IPTV. It also answers why this technology has a bright future. The following sections show the actual use of data transmission by ADSL technology. They explain all the necessary units like Head-End, ADSL, DSLAM. Also, they describe data transmission options as unicast and multicast. The next part of this paper explains the concept of hierarchical aggregation and the use of feedback targets for feedback transmission. Finally, the proposed IPTV system with TTP (Tree Transmission Protocol) protocol for hierarchical feedback transmission is described.
