Abstract

In this paper, we propose a middleware for Transparent MObile ad-hoc networking Systems(ATMOS), which extends the architecture of the Internet with link complement layer. The link complement layer provides the virtual link over MANETs that might consist of many kinds of wireless links. Since this virtual link conforms to the classic link model, existing protocols designed for IP subnets can run on top of it. We implemented DYnamic MObile routing(DYMO) and Simplified Multicast Flooding(SMF) on the middleware, and then verified that existing protocols such as mDNS can work in a MANET without modification. We think that ATMOS will help MANETs to be deployed into daily-use networks.
