Abstract

Many different approaches have been tried in an effort to increase enrollment in computer science (CS) programs. This paper describes one approach taken at Texas A&M University -- Corpus Christi during the summer of 2008. A week-long camp, funded by the State of Texas, was held for 32 incoming college freshmen. The camp provided five and a half days of intensive sessions that introduced participants to critical thinking, computer science, and engineering technology. While long-term results will take several years to emerge, initial responses by the students have been encouraging.
