The purpose of this document is to discuss the use of computer simulation for increasing the surgical center occupation rate at a University Hospital located in Curitiba, Brazil. For the attainment of this work three scenarios were created. The first scenario has six surgical rooms. It was possible to improve the orthopedic surgical occupation rate specially through changing some input variables. The two following scenarios demonstrated the impact of adding more room capacity. The second scenario uses input data from the real system, making it possible to obtain a better occupation rate. The third scenario showed an increase in occupancy using the input data. These results provided help for the reduction of idleness in this sector.
