Abstract

This simulation study shows that with a simple network model the background function of a central pattern generator (CPG) network can be understood easily. The network model connects units consisting of two excitatory and one inhibitory population. An example of the lamprey demonstrates that a sufficient inhibition activity is necessary to produce CPG like patterns.
