Abstract

An accurate Access Control System is critical in a wide range of application domain such as national ID card, electronic commerce, and automated banking. A Biometrics based Access Control System based on her physiological or behavioral characteristics is inherently more reliable and more capable in differentiating between an authorized person and a fraudulent imposter than traditional methods. The objective is to design a fingerprint-based biometric system which is capable of achieving a fully automatic "positive personal identification" with a high level of confidence. This paper is implementation of Minutia based approach to fingerprint recognition. The identified and explored the following issues: (i) feature extraction (ii) image enhancement, (iii) Minutiae matching. An alignment-based minutiae-matching algorithm has been proposed. This algorithm is capable of finding the correspondences between input minutiae and the stored template without resorting to exhaustive search and has the ability to compensate adaptively for the nonlinear deformations and in exact transformations between an input and a template. Good result (~92% accuracy) were obtained using FVC2002 fingerprint database.
